The Big Trip | Leg 4 | Bar Harbour, Maine to Boston, Massachusetts

We will head back more of an express route to get back to Brunswick, where we will then follow the water and back to Portland to pick up supplies. Hopefully, we can pick up a baseball game in Portland now or when we first arrived.

Portland has the Sea Dogs. $15 bucks for a ticket for down low. in 2003, they built a replica “Green Wall” since they are the farm team of the Boston Red Sox. It’s nicknamed the “Maine Monster”. There is another team in New Hampshire that is connected with the Toronto Blue Jays in their farm system, so we will check out the schedule to see if it’s possible to catch a game and also in Norfolk, Virginia when we get more south.

Old Orchard Beach will be a little stop to park the van and go check out the beach and pier. Old Orchard Beach is a small town of only about 9,000 people. It’s located on the inner side of Saco Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. It’s been a popular seaside resort town with an 11km long beach which covers the towns Saco and Scarborough. The oldest hotel still standing on the beachfront in Old Orchard at this time is The Ocean House Hotel & Motel, circa 1895. Fireworks happen every Thursday night in the summer.

Have To Go See The Bush in Kennebunkport, Maine

Kennebunkport has a reputation of being an upper-class summer haven and it’s one of the wealthiest communities in Maine. It was a shipbuilding community. By 1870 it was known as a summer destination with hotels. Kennebunkport is also known as where former President Bush has a summer home which was built by his maternal grandfather. The bush compound is located on Walkers Point. We are going to drive the shore and stop at the beach and also check out The Colony Hotel and Resort. It would be sweet to sneak into the pool but I’m sure it would be hard to sneak in. Will probably get a big pizza pie from a cool little shop in town and go sit down by the water with a cider and enjoy the ocean.

Gloucester, Manchester-By-The-Sea and Salem Massachusetts

We will snake our way down the coast towards Boson… checking out Gloucester and Manchester-By-The-Sea and then down to Salem and look for some witches and hit Marblehead before heading a little bit further to check out Boson.

This leg wraps up in Boston. Getting tickets for Fenway Park would be wild. We will be checking the schedule and see if we can pick up tickets before we get there. Might be impossible… but we will see. I don’t know too much about Boston. I’m more excited for New York City and we will also have Washington DC. So we will do a city tour via the Van for sure and send Noah into places to get different food to try and we check out the city. I guess we will have to develop a driving route so we can plug things into google maps on the dash iPad.
